BlackBerry Z30 stars in first promo video, boasts bigger screen and battery

BlackBerry just jumped into the 5″ smartphone ring with the new Z30, up from the “small” Z10 with a 4.2″ screen. The BlackBerry Z30 also launches the new BlackBerry OS 10.2 with a number of new features.

The first promo video for the Z30 is out and it underlines the advantages of the Z30 and the updates that come with the new version of the OS.
The BlackBerry Z30 features a 5″ AMOLED display with 720p resolution, faster chipset, more battery life (with a bigger battery and software enhancements in BB OS 10.2). The Z30 also boasts a new antenna design and stereo speakers with Natural Sound tech.
The new OS version also has some enhancements to the already impressive messaging capabilities of BlackBerry OS 10. The Hub has grown a Priority section that learns who in your messaging history is important and collects priority messages from all accounts (email, social networking and other sources). BBM Now and Message Preview give you a peek at new messages without having to leave the app and you can even respond to BBM messages.
Here’s the promo video that shows off the new BlackBerry Z30.

Sad that it’s been a while since Vertu put out a phone? Well, you can try a 24K gold BlackBerry Q10 instead. It comes from Goldgenie, which has a history of turning BlackBerrys into gold (Apple products too).
Anyway, the BlackBerry Q10 has a 24K gold-plated bezel and a 24K gold panel below the QWERTY keyboard. All other specs of the phone remain the same, except that the packaging has been upgraded to a snazzy wooden box. And it’s heavier, but Goldgenie gives no concrete numbers about that.

We couldn’t help it but share with you the first glimpse of how well a touch-only BlackBerry of the new generation will handle, considering the unflattering response that the Storm and the Torch got.

»WhatsApp prioritizes voice messaging in latest update

by WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update across the various platforms that prioritizes the voice messaging feature of the service. This move probably comes after other messaging services have started incorporating and promoting their voice messaging feature.
To be clear, this is not a new feature even for WhatsApp as the functionality was always available. The only difference is that now it is prominently placed in the UI with the latest update. Now, you’ll see a microphone button instead of the Send button when no message is being typed in the message field. Press and hold this button and your message starts getting recorded. Slide left any time to cancel the recording. READ MORE »

The BlackBerry Q5 is a business phone, meaning no matter what it has to have charge left over or you could miss all sorts of important calls and messages. U-Turn: BlackBerry PlayBook won’t get BlackBerry 10 update

Today is certainly not a good day for the BlackBerry fans. Earlier CEO Thorsten Heins reported disappointing earnings results for the last quarter. The company did manage to increase its revenue, but it didn’t meet profit expectations, in fact its operating loss is $84 million. Because of the bad financial report the company’s stock tumbled down over 25% at time of writing.
During the financial results conference call BlackBerry delivered another portion of bad news – there will not be BlackBerry 10 update for the PlayBook slates.

BlackBerry Q10 lands in our office, we take it for a spin

The BlackBerry Q10 is the company second device running on touch-friendly BlackBerry 10 OS. It’s also probably the most hotly anticipated handset by the die-hard fans of the Canadian company because of its iconic hardware QWERTY keyboard.
The Q10 packs a 3.1-inch 720p Super AMOLED display and runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A9 processor. It’s surely not the latest technology around, but it should be enough for smooth performance.
